Thailand on My Outside Edge

I don’t know, maybe it was the colorful flysheet—Skate Farm Thailand—on the bare table at the skate expo that captured better than the gray Duluth sky the exhilaration I felt at having just completed my first North Shore Inline Marathon in September 2010. Maybe I wanted more of Eddy Matzger's skate coaching, now that I was less of a novice than when I'd gone at the start of the summer to his Skate Farm in Floyd, Virginia. It had been fun to meet other skaters there,…

The Chicagoland Inline Marathon and Tour will again be a mega (double points) event in the National Roller Cup.

This year, we are planning to base NROC points for both pro and advanced skaters on their finish in the tour.

The tour is three events: a 10K and 2-mile time trial on Saturday and the full marathon on Sunday.

Let us know what your thoughts are about this.

The Chicagoland Inline Marathon is July 21 and 22 in Hoffman Estates,…

NROC 2012

Hi, Skaters!

Here we are in February of a new year. And that means it's time to get the new NROC season rolling.

The pieces are starting to come together. As I announced a few months ago, we are reorganizing the age divisions this year. Each division will cover 10 years, starting at age 30. We haven't decided whether to retain the old naming convention: master, veteran and grand veteran. If we do, we will…

What should I do to tune up a used pair of skates?

I just bought a used pair of Riedell rs1000 skates with sure grip plates and cannibal wheels (orange).

I have no idea what type of bearings, is there a way to tell?

There are a few scuffs on the boots, but fine other than that.  I may polish the boots.

However, I don't know how to go about cleaning the wheels/bearings and if this is even necessary.

Also, do I need to re-grease the bearings or do any maintenance?

Any pointers would be helpful.

Oh, do…
