More on the Indiana racees
“I looked over these sites... things look good. The Fort Harrison site looks ideal for a 10K criterium format. Half marathons with a 10K are also pretty popular. They should also consider a Pro/NROC level time trial - tea…

Yes, leave the compression suit at the hotel and have a great skate. I asked around at indoor practice today and heard good things about the Piedmont Park Meadows loop. It should be perfect for your needs while in town. Take the Marta train from downtown to the 10th street station. The park is just a few blocks East of the station. You can get a map off the internet for the park so you'll know where the Meadow loop is located. It looks like the SE corner of the park to me which should be right off 10th St.
I look forward to meeting you at Squiggy. I will be wearing a Precision Inline uniform. Good Luck!
Hello Thomas, I have never actually skated in Piedmont Park but I know it is a very popular spot. They had a 10K skate the day before the A2A two years ago. Check out the Atlanta Peachtree Roadrollers skate club. I think their website is www.aprr.org They have alot of organized street skates and would be very familiar with Piedmont Park. I checked out the rules for PP and they allow skating on the main park roads and the Meadows path. I'm not sure how big that loop is but it should be okay. You have to be careful skating the streets in Atlanta as there are many downhills and many intersections and those don't mix well on our speed skates. I would bring a skate back pack to carry my skates and ride the MARTA rail from downtown to the 10th street station that is very close to Piedmont Park. Once you get to the park put on the skates and go for it. I feel like I should tell you something about the PP area. It is pretty well known as a popular area for our gay community. No issues but you will most likely notice something abit "different" about some of the folks. It's still a Great place to go and probably your best bet to skate safely. It is a very nice, beautiful park. I think you'll like it.
What business are you in that has a tradeshow in Atlanta? And lastly, I think we were in the same pack at Squiggy last year. I was one of the 3 guys that did most of the pulls in our pack and my team (of 3 grand veterans) finished around 1:33. When are you going to be in town?
Hello Thomas, actually I tried to respond back to you during the chat and it knocked me off too but I just refreshed and let me back in. Yes, I live in the Roswell, GA which is about 30 miles north of downtown. I used to do alot of running including 3 full marathons and the Atlanta 1/2 marathon 3 times. Due to bulged disc now I just skate. If you are staying downtown you can run up Peachtree Street or over to the Omni next to Centennial Park (too small park for running but nice destination) or even around the Capital building. There are some hills in the downtown area so be advised but nothing killer. If you have time and want to run or a car you can go a few miles north of downtown (called the midtown area just east of Peachtree Street on 10th Ave) to Piedmont Park. This is a large park with a running trail. Very nice and scenic. Before our drought it was the end of the Peachtree Road Race on July 4th (50K+ runners). Let me know where you are staying and how far you want to run, I'll try to map out some roads to give you a course to try. I have done several 5K and 10K races in the downtown area in the past. That was the nice thing about running over skating. Just put on the shoes and go. Skating is a problem with the cars and hills. They don't go well together when the intersection is at the bottom of a 20mph+ hill. Good Luck, Doug
Thomas, thanks for putting up so many photos and videos to show who you are. I love your profile shot with the two kids. In fact it's great seeing photos of family skating. And the foam butt pad too! I've always had a soft spot for skate inventions...which reminds me I have a YouTube of one I should share here.
